Rome Airport Plans to Offer Flying Taxis by 2024

There's nothing worse than getting off a long flight and then having to sit in traffic on the way to your accommodation. But Rome's main airport may have a solution to these travel troubles, as it plans to offer passengers the option of traveling into the city in a flying taxi.

Volocopter, a German company that makes flying electric vehicles, has partnered with Fiumicino Airport in Italy to make battery-powered flying taxis available to tourists by 2024.

The taxis will seat two passengers, and the journey from the airport to the city will take around 15 minutes, said Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma, the company that manages the airport. This is half an hour shorter than the 45 minutes the journey currently takes by car.

Volocopter's air taxis have been designed to travel up to 35 kilometers with a top speed of 110 kilometers per hour.
